What is a Public Right of way
There are four Public Rights of Way.:
a) Footpath - a public right of way on foot only.
b) Bridleway - a public right of way on foot, on horseback or on a pedal cycle.
c) Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT) - a public right of way for vehicles and other kinds of traffic, but which because of its nature is used mainly as a footpath or bridleway.
d) Restricted Byway - a new category of public right of way to replace Roads Used as Public Paths. The public can use them on foot, on horseback, on bicycle or with a ‘horse drawn carriage’.
